Decision Point

Elena  still couldn't believe her luck.  Marcellus, guitar god of  Odin's Cult, had asked her onstage during the concert!  She had actually stood next to Marcellus, petrified to be all-at-once in front of the screaming crowd.   Thousands of hands extended into the air in front of her, swaying with the over-the-recommended decibel range of the music.  Marcellus even drifted over in the middle of his solo to stand next to her, just so he could give her a kiss on the cheek!   The crowd roared their approval, and Elena couldn't have dreamed of ever being so happy. Onstage with her favorite band and the most gorgeous guitar player ever!

Starstruck and giggling, she allowed herself to be led backstage to the dressing room, envisioning the door that would open for her as the girlfriend of a member of Odin's Cult. Did the girlfriends get their own special passes to shows?  She smiled to herself as she entered the room.  Marcellus closed and locked the door behind her, but it barely registered in her fantasy.

Instead, Elena barely withheld a squeal of delight when Marcellus began to speak to her.  That voice!  She wanted to tell this great man how awesome he was for bringing her backstage and how she was such a huge fan, but he put a finger on her lips.

"Here's how this works, love."  His suddenly brisk tone was jarring. "I am a rock star.  I have needs.  I don't need any sappy "I love you" crap.  I just need a warm body for tonight, because I don't like to sleep alone.  I will use you as I see fit, and then I will be on my way to the next city.  You will get a limo ride home, and maybe a free t-shirt.  It's entirely likely that you will never see me again. Do you understand?"

Elena nodded slowly, her smile gone.

"Good." Marcellus stood in front of her.  "Then on your knees, love."

Concrit is very welcome!

This week's word is:

DOOR

  1. You know it's not at all strange to think this is exactly how it happens all the time. :/ Silly fangirls.

    1. I think about all those fan girls screaming after this star and that, and it makes me a little sad for those crushed dreams.

  2. His dialogue is the perfect degree of coolness washing over her fevered dreams. I loved how terse and harsh the end was.

    1. So many girls think that if a guy smiles, it means something special, and that just isn't always the case.

  3. This is even more sad because I don't think it's far-fetched. (I don't know for sure because I haven't fawned over a rock star.) I so wished she would've told him where to go and left immediately with her dignity in place. Maybe she still can.

    1. It may not happen as much as it used to, but there are still people like that out there, unfortunately.

  4. I was wondering if she could say no or run for the door to leave. Well written. Starstruck does overwhelm common sense unfortunately, and they know that. He was in a position of power over her.

  5. Brutal, but not too far from the truth I guess. (RogRites)

  6. At least he was being honest ... but I wonder what would have happened if she'd shaken her head instead of nodding??!! Intriguing!!

    1. If I were in that situation, I'd likely fake a seizure.

  9. Yes.. I'm sure that is exactly how it works... It sucks to be a groupie (pun intended)

  10. Oh, icky. But really well told. Some things are better off staying in the realm of fantasy.

  11. A very well written and realistic story. The Rock God's dialogue is perfect.

  12. The story gives me a sick feeling (as a mom reading it)... probably the intended response. :) I was going to ask if the older names, Odin, Marcellus, even Elena (like Helen) are supposed to connect us at all to older mythology? Even if you didn't intend it, that connection made me look at the story more deeply. Really nice!

  13. Nice contrast between her innocent expectations and his callous carelessness. I wish she would have said no, but how else could she react to her dream man?

  14. Jarringly truthful. I've heard of band members pointing out women in the audience. Luck can certainly be two sided. Great job.

  16. Excellent piece of writing TM!Yes,many youngsters, specially girls are so starstruck that they will do anything to be with their favourite stars but I do hope this Elena has some sense & says,"no thank you" & walks off!

  17. Whamo! A hell of an ending. Reality bites. Poor Elena.
