On to the weekend challenge. As you'll recall from your elementary
science class days, the structure of the earth can be divided most
simply into three sections: core, mantle, crust. Give us 33 words from it. Interpret the prompt however you
wish--literal, metaphorical, or somewhere in between.
With the occurrence of each cataclysm
The crust we have so carefully cultivated
Furiously flakes away in the maelstrom.
The mantle offers little protection.
The core is thus revealed,
If only to ourselves.
What raw words - beautifully done.
ReplyDelete..the core is thus revealed"-true!Well put:-)
ReplyDeleteNice...great use of metaphor! My fav part is the last two lines, and the last especially. Speaks to me of a rite of passage.
ReplyDeletedigging beneath the layers to discover who we really are . . . . a journey well taken.
ReplyDeleteOh how true, so true. Super use of words.

It's that time, before it grows over again, that we see (in others and ourselves) what we're all about. Brilliant job! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat was very well done
ReplyDeleteI like the personal journey at play in your piece. Well done!
ReplyDeleteI love the vulnerability of this. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteDamnit lumdog! You used my comment. While so difficult at times, I love vulnerability! Wonderfully portrayed here!
ReplyDeleteNice job here! Sometimes we may not want to see the core, but it is a good thing to pry beneath the layers.
ReplyDeleteVery powerful. The scientific wording makes this all the more poignant.
ReplyDeleteThat last line really hit me. Great piece!
ReplyDeleteyou had me at cataclysm then hooked me like a common junkie with maelstorm. Great word play. *clapping*
ReplyDeleteAha! So true. Nicely written.
ReplyDeleteI love the last line. The idea that we hide even from ourselves - so true, isn't it?
