I Am, Said Someone Who Is Not Neil Diamond

Mamakat's World Famous Writer's Workshop PromptFill in the blanks of this template and create your own I Am poem.  I love these sorts of poetry exercises. Those of you who know who Neil Diamond is will understand the title; those who don't can google him.  Cheers!

I am tenacious and fierce
I wonder if cats ever dream of people
I hear the cry of a phoenix rising from the ashes
I see angels marching across the sky
I want to read every book ever written
I am tenacious and fierce

I pretend to be unaware of the world
I feel the breath of dragons
I touch the manes of griffins
I worry that I am not enough
I cry that any child should ever hurt
I am tenacious and fierce

I understand that this too, shall pass
I say everything exists for a reason, a purpose
I dream of walking through a cool forest in bare feet
I try to keep a clean and uncluttered home
I hope for a comfortable midlife
I am tenacious and fierce

  1. This was a fun exercise. I don't write poetry, as a rule.

    1. I don't either, but these kinds of poems have enough parameters for my comfort zone.

  2. I love the bit about dragons and griffins... poems are always better with a bit of fantasy!

    1. I discovered that I have to work hard at being positive--my first attempt was depressing.

  5. I liked your 'i am' post. I am not a poet, but I found the prompts easy enough to put it all together.

    1. I'd roar, but Zane apparently does not like loud noises.

  7. I know who Neil Diamond is, but I hadn't thought of his song until I read your post! I bet he'd be happy to know you remembered.

"This, too, shall pass" are words I live by. Glad to meet a kindred spirit!

I loved your poem. This was such a fun exercise!

  8. This was awesome!

And this "I see angels marching across the sky" was my favorite line.

  10. Another awesome I am poem. I think I picked the wrong prompt. Tenacious and fierce. That is not me. But great for you.

  11. When I walk into a library or book store, even if I have specific books on hold, I'll think damn I wish I could just read them all, every subject, every author, just every book EVER.

I welcome comments, but reserve the right to correct your spelling because I am OCD about it!
